Byetta

What is Byetta?
Byetta is a prescribed medication which is injected twice daily30 minutes to 1 hour before your 2 main meals and is used to improve glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes.
How does Byetta work?
Byetta is unique in itself and works in a different way than oral medication or insulin. Basically speaking, Byetta instructs your body when to produce insulin and exactly how much, this new drug will help give non insulin taking Type 2 diabetics much better control over their blood sugar readings and their overall daily average(A1c test).
How do I take Byetta?
You inject Byetta twice a day before your largest meals through a pre filled pen style injector. The pens come in two different size dosages. Each pen has disposable needle tips (another prescription) which simply screw onto the end of the pen. The pen then has a cap on the opposite end which you twist to set the dosage or push to inject it. Your doctor will decide which of one of the two different dosages you will need and prescribe the corresponding pen.
How is Byetta different from other drugs?
With the exception of insulin this is the first prescription injection for type 2 diabetes. All other types are oral. Second of all, Byetta works by helping your pancreas to work the same as one does in a normal person. Sounds good, huh? This in turn really helps to control your blood sugar levels. Second of all, Byetta is easy to use because unlike insulin you always take the same amount every time regardless of your diet or lifestyle.
Drawbacks
The only drawback I see is that Byetta, without insurance cost $210 per prescription. Even with my insurance, where all my other prescriptions cost $3.00 each the Byetta cost $50.00 my cost per prescription. The pens come pre filled for 30 days.
